The Basics

I’m not really one for playing around with basic pieces. I don’t own any white t-shirts and I generally prefer things with an extra flair to them (more bang for my styling buck), which is why when I head back to basics, I think more about playing with basic formulas and methods for styling.

It can be a little intimidating when you’re thinking up what you should wear and you’re looking through every single item in your closet. Should you hit the world up with a snazzy sparkly skirt? Make it a little fancy with a printed collared shirt? I recommend thinking of a simple combo and then filling in the blanks: Sweater + Jeans + Socks + Boots. From there, you hit that magical point where you’re restricting yourself to specific types of pieces, while still leaving room for your creativity to shine through. So style it up, keep it classy, and go bold while also heading back to the basics!

Pointless Sweater

I have a love of sweaters that runs so great that I don’t even have a need for them to be functional anymore. This sweater does nothing to keep me warm in this emerging winter cold and I decided to continue the trend of non-winter-functional pieces by layering it over top of this pastel, floral sleeveless button-down. I’m on this new kick of pulling my summer pieced into winter wear because I like a challenge (read: my wardrobe is not as expansive as I wish it was). Don’t limit your clothes to the season friends. Mix and match to your heart’s content. Live your dreams.

Backyard Stripes

Hello, all! Today I continue with my love for all within the overall family with this dazzlin’ overall dress. If you’ve checked me out on my YouTube or Instagram then you may already be acquainted with this lovely piece of sewn together fabric, but if you don’t and are a little late, well, then welcome to the party. I picked this dress up from Rainbow and was drawn to the subtle stripes within the denim. I wanted to play with that a bit by pairing it with a less subtle chevron print top. It all makes for a nice casual and playful combo.

Hello all!

I’m in the process of packing up and moving at the moment, so this morning I decided to wash my clothes before packing them up. Unfortunately, this was poor planning on my part as I also ended up throwing the outfit that I had planned to wear into the wash as well. And thus, I reached a new low (or perhaps a new high) and decided to just throw a skater skirt on and tuck my pajama top into and pretend that I had gotten fully dressed this morning. Fortunately, the top really turned out to be a quirky addition to an otherwise simple outfit!100_3368100_3366

Magic Fros

Happy Sunday everybody! It’s always been a dream of mine to be able to pull off the afro look and, seeing as I had just washed my hair, yesterday seemed as good a day as any to start (i.e. I was feeling really lazy after washing my hair and decided to let it air dry). I was feeling some serious vibes from the fro, guys. I almost thought I was going to travel back in time to experience some disco fever. Then I remembered that this was a time in which there was no home internet service or computers, so I decided to play it safe and stay in 2013. Nothing’s better than a good old afro, internet connection, and neon green sweater.100_1284 100_1292

Let Us Conclude That I’ve Found Cosmic Love

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve done a post about my fashion findings from the internet (insert a horrified gasp and head shake of disapproval here) and with my excitement over my upcoming trip to the fabulous Forever 21, I decided to make a post of my favorite things from their site. From this post you should be able to conclude that I am something of a masochist who loves to torture herself by spending hours looking at clothes that she most likely won’t by when she does finally go shopping.

Item #5: The Polka Dot Backpackf21 backpack

I’m generally not a backpack person (I go for cute tote bags and large purses when I’m at school), but occasionally I do find a backpack that strikes my fancy. Perhaps it was polka dot print or maybe it was the leather that caused my to become smitten for this bag; all I know is that this was love at first sight (and not in the tragic Romeo and Juliet “star-crossed lovers” way-except it kind of is because me and this bag will most likely never be together).

Item #4: Star Print Skinny Jeansf21 jeans

I’m not the most patriotic person on earth, but I do have a taste for printed jeans (especially of the white shapes on classic denim variety-though I’m sure you guys may have already picked up on that) which was enough for me to fall for the American flag print trend for denim from last summer. That being said, I was never fashion savvy enough to walk around in jeans that mimic the garnish on every American school’s flag pole, so star print jeans are a lovely compromise.

Item #3: Rosette Cluster Headwrapf21 headband

The only explanation for this is the fact that I love floral headbands and have a toxic relationship with the memories of my 12-year-old self who tried (and failed at) going through both an emo and gothic phase. What better way to celebrate that than with a this accessory that obviously is speaking to my soul?

Item #2: Pleated Straw Pork Pie Hatf21 hat

My classic fedora says “I’m to cool for school.” Unfortunately, I am in school (and loving it), so I need a hat that says “I’m educated with a laid back personality.” Of course, that last statement isn’t all that true (the laid back part is, not the one about whether or not I’m educated), but part of the fun of getting dressed is playing a bit of dress-up, yeah?

Item #1: The Celestial T-Shirt Dress of My Dreamsf21 dress

I like to think of this dress as my one true love. I’d write sonnets about this dress.I’d paint portraits of this dress to rival the Mona Lisa. I’d write Mariah Carey style ballads about this dress. I’d make crappy YouTube videos documenting my relationship with this dress with overly upbeat love songs from One Direction playing in the background. I’d make sure it knew that I will never love another dress as I love it. This dress, my friends, is the dress of my dreams.

Peplum Suns

“I wish I were Adenine because then I could get paired with U.”

Hello all! 🙂 I’m currently in the process of picking out my outfits for my next public speaking competition thing which is an away trip! (Insert some excited squealing here.) I’m finding it to be strange though, because I’m not used to picking out multiple outfits days in advance; it’s actually quite the daunting thought because I don’t have the option to change my mind if I suddenly hate everything I have packed. Alas, that is life, so I must deal. Hopefully I’ll deal better with my packing than I did with this shade (let’s just pretend my jeans hold the essence of the sun, so full light wasn’t really needed).100_1085 100_1074 100_1067

Covered In Love

February is Heart Disease Awareness Month, which was celebrated in my anatomy and physiology class through presentations on heart disease. What better thing to wear on a heart related presentation, than my new DIY heart print jeans? (Insert children cheering for my success here.) My presentation went quite well, in which I informed my peers that because 1 in 4 Americans die of heart disease and we’re a class of about 20 people, 5 of us will most likely kick the bucket from it. In true infomercial personality fashion, I moved onto the whole “but wait! there’s more!” section in which it was revealed that only about half of these deaths have the luxury of happening in a hospital. From this, we can all probably infer that it was a bit of a morbid presentation, but my lovely heart jeans kept the room beating with life (There’s a joke in here somewhere. It isn’t that funny.)100_1037
