The best part about going home for breaks is getting to delve into my wardrobe with all of the clothes that I haven’t been able to wear while I’m at school. For instance, I had completely forgotten that I owned this delightfully fuzzy monstrosity which is why it’s getting a little love from me today. It’s wonderful because it’s warm, but slightly less wonderful because it sheds and only has 3/4 length sleeves so my arm-shins are always cold. Despite that, my poor chilly arm-shins have never been styled better.
It’s a shame that I want to welcome November in with warm coat clothed arms and mitten covered hands, but I can’t because it’s still 70 degrees outside. Regardless of that, I refuse to go back to wearing shorts. My fall aesthetic is in full swing and while I won’t go full force with it, I won’t let the temperature stop me from wearing my tights and knitwear. For that reason, I decided to pair one of my summer favorite, this lightweight, open back F21 dress, with colored tights and a chunky cardigan. It’s warm enough to keep me from suffering in the freezing classroom but not so warm that I won’t be able to survive the actual outdoors.
I’ve got floral fever. Last time you guys saw me, I was embracing the wonderful lifestyle of Flower Power Forever and today I can assure you that nothing has changed. It’s been a bit rainy and gloomy so I decided to opt for a nice oversized sweater with this simple zipper detailing, but at the end of the day I am a creature of habit. I said yes to those floral print pants and I feel no shame from it. Continue on my fellow floral lovers. Continue on in your greatness. ✿ ❀ ✿ ❀
This morning I had planned to stay in bed watching YouTube videos of people eating burgers from various fast food restaurants and telling the camera which is their favorite. I love a good burger, but I tend to love a good outing a bit more, so when I received a call from a friend asking if I wanted to hit up Michaels with her I was like, “✅✨🔥” (translation: “That sounds like a great time”). I got completely ready in a record breaking 15 minutes and went for that very simply but also mildly cool aesthetic. Rather than trying to fool around with prints I paired this basic black tank dress from F21 with a fringe necklace for statement and color. Then, because I’m overeager for fall, I added on this basic black cardigan from CATO Fashion.
I’ve recently put a lot of effort into attempting to figure out what my perfect autumn colors are and I’m beginning to think that they’re a cross between muted purples and deep reds. I honestly can’t tell the difference between burgundy and oxblood, but whatever these tights happen to be, they are so on point. They’re great for fall and more than likely will make their way into a Thanksgiving outfit with a deepness that resembles all of my family’s favorite holiday drinks. The fact that they do have a bit of that red tone to them, also means that they can transition well into winter and will more than like look lovely with white when I attempt to channel my winter angel aesthetic. Plus, they make any outfit at least 5% more rad! 😉
Fun fact: I got dressed in the dark this morning and getting dressed in the dark is a perfectly good excuse for rocking a black and white outfit. To be honest, the dramatic air of the color combo doesn’t really need any specific reason to be integrated into anyone’s attire beyond the fact that it always looks cool, but it’s especially great when you’re having one of those mornings. I decided to mix things up a bit in the outfit by pairing it with my new favorite beanie from Forever 21 for a little bit of extra warmth. Thus, my fall aesthetic is on and going stronger than ever.
I actually generally refer to this sweater as more of an early spring piece than a fall one because it is so incredibly bright and the sleeves don’t reach my hands. That being said, this is one of my favorite sweaters (and one of the few sweaters I actually brought to college with me) because it still can work during the transition into colder weather and adds a little bit of joy to an outfit. I’m also currently loving my new tights from Forever 21 and always look for an excuse to wear them. They’re a nice burgundy/oxblood color and are perfect for creating an overall fall and winter aesthetic. Just get me a nice cup of cocoa and maybe a pair of mittens and I’d say that this outfit would look cool enough to give the weather outside a run for its money.
I’ve taken quite a liking to Forever 21’s nail polishes in Gold Confetti (the one I’m wearing in the photo) and Moody Purple!
What pieces complete your cold weather aesthetic?
My flannel shirt has consistently remained one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. It’s soft and comfortable which means I kind of wish I could wear it everyday, but I realize that following through with that thought would amount to some future problems in terms of cleanliness. That being said, I do still were this shirt a lot which brings on the question of how to keep it “hip” and “fresh” when I’m putting it on once a week. This week I decided to spice it up with a floral necklace from Forever 21, which is just bulkly enough to stand out beneath the collar of the shirt without causing any sort of battle for attention or space.
I recently haven’t been too pleased with the weather, as it is mid-October, yet the temperature was still in the 80s. Luckily, mother nature came through for me and it rained and everything cooled off and I was finally able to break out a warm cardigan! While this isn’t my favorite fall look, I do still appreciate the overall vibe of it, especially with that “touch of edge” from my new ankle booties from Charlotte Russe that I have been wearing non-stop. And now, let the weather appropriate fall looks begin!
